mod-blast-radius

Part of [moonlight-claude-mods][doc-root].

Holds a risky shell command until you choose Cancel or Run.

Install

Inside Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add v-amorim/moonlight-claude-mods
/plugin install mod-blast-radius@claude-mods
/reload-plugins

/plugin install asks where to install the mod. Keep Install for you (user scope) and press Enter, then press Esc to leave the plugin screen before /reload-plugins.

To install every mod at once, see [Install][doc-install]. For sharper icons, see [Icons and Nerd Fonts][doc-icons].

Features

  • Hold: A risky Bash command waits before it runs, with no timeout: rm, git reset --hard, force push, SQL DROP, production deploys, gcloud, az, databricks, chmod 777, curl into a shell, credential reads, mv over a file, > over a file and Windows deletes.
  • Idle countdown: With an idle timeout set, the card's top edge shows "Sets this aside in 10 min, Claude keeps going" at its right end: whole minutes, then seconds in the last minute, the time turning yellow at 2 min and red in the last minute (a timeout under 4 min turns yellow at half its length and red in its last quarter). Using the card sets it back to the full time. A narrow card drops ", Claude keeps going" first, then the countdown. With the timeout off, nothing shows.
  • Your rules: ~/.claude/mods-data/mod-blast-radius/rules.json, an array of { "pattern": "regex", "reason": "text", "flags": "i" }. Read again when the file changes. A bad entry is skipped with a note in the settings pane; the built-in checks never depend on it.
  • Pass rules: An entry with "action": "pass" lets a matching step through without a hold, so your other hooks and permissions decide it. Each step of a command is matched on its own, so rm a.txt && rm -rf ~ passes the first step and still holds the second. Example: { "pattern": "^\\s*rm(?!.*\\s(-[a-zA-Z]*[rR][a-zA-Z]*|--recursive)(\\s|$))\\s", "reason": "Plain rm is decided elsewhere", "action": "pass" } lets rm without -r through. Without "action", or with "hold", an entry adds a hold as before. A pass never lets these through, whatever the pattern: a target at the root, at home (~ or $HOME), in a parent folder (..) or on a whole drive; a recursive delete of a critical folder (.git, .github, .claude, .vscode, src, helpers, resources, tests, scripts, fixtures); a step that hands text to a shell (bash -c, eval, powershell -Command); and a step with a command substitution ($(...) or backticks).
  • Fails closed: A command whose check fails is held, not run: the check throws, or rules.json cannot be read as JSON. The card says the check failed. Where no card can draw, the permission system asks. The On check error setting picks Hold (the default) or Run; Run lets such a command through and toasts once.
  • Send rm to the bin: Opt in with the Send rm to the bin setting. A plain rm whose every target is inside the session folder is rewritten to send the targets to the OS bin, and runs with no card. Targets resolve against the folder in force at the rm: absolute (C:/x, C:\x, /c/x), ~, $HOME, or relative after a cd. Other steps of the command stay as typed when they pass the checks, and a risky one keeps the card. Windows uses the Recycle Bin through PowerShell, macOS uses trash or Finder, Linux uses gio trash. With no bin on the machine the card holds it, and nothing falls back to a plain delete.
  • Files you made: With Send rm to the bin on, an rm outside the session folder also goes to the bin with no card, when every target passes three checks: this session created it (its birth time is after the session first showed up, and a folder needs every entry inside to pass, up to 2000 entries), nothing in ~/.claude/mods-data/mod-blast-radius/keep.json keeps it, and mod-wrap-up's ledger does not name it, or a folder it holds, in an open task or a decision in force (a named folder guards only itself, not the files in it; home, folders above it and drive roots are ignored; without mod-wrap-up this check passes). Any other target keeps the card for the whole command, and so does a failed check, a path whose birth time cannot be read, a link, a glob and your home or session folder. keep.json is an array of { "glob": "~/.claude/notes/**", "reason": "text" } (~ and $HOME expand; a target inside or equal to a match is kept, and a folder is kept when a file under it would match) and { "marker": "board.json", "unless": "picks.json", "reason": "text" } (anything inside a folder, or holding a folder, with the marker file and no unless file is kept). It is read again when the file changes. A missing file keeps nothing; a broken file keeps everything outside the session folder. Birth time comes from one PowerShell call on Windows and one sh call with stat on macOS and Linux, once per command that needs it.
  • Session folder: When the session folder is your home folder, a drive root or unknown, a plain rm is held whatever a pass rule says, since a rule's regex cannot see the folder.
  • Always show the card: A command judged risky but measured harmless (an overwrite with nothing to overwrite) passes silently by default. The Always show the card setting shows its card anyway.
  • No drawing surface: Where nothing can show the hold (a VS Code chat panel, claude -p, an SDK session), the call is not held. The permission system asks instead, with the reason.
  • Preview: Paths with counts and size, git status and dry runs, the commits a force push would drop. Read-only: the command itself never runs.
  • Run or Cancel: Cancel refuses the call with a reason Claude reads. A narrow terminal draws the same report above the prompt.
  • Show all: The card shows two rows of its sentence. Show all on the card opens the whole sentence, and Show less folds it back.
  • This session's permission checks: The card counts the session's permission checks and how many were denied. Details ends with one cell per check (allowed, asked, denied, waiting, or made by a subagent) and the counts by file, shell and other tools. Secrets in a command are masked before anything is kept, and /clear starts the list again. The mod only watches these checks; it never changes their answer.

Costs

By default this mod makes no model call: the held dialog shows only the rule's reason and the preview.

Turn on Explain with Haiku (/mod-blast-radius settings) and each held command is sent to Haiku for a plain-language explanation, so the command text leaves your machine like any prompt. That spends tokens and counts against your plan quota. It is off by default.

Settings

Change them with /mod-blast-radius settings or the gear pill.

SettingDefaultWhat it does
AnimationsonEntries shimmer while they wait. Hover colors also fade. Off, everything draws still
Hold risky commandsonRisky Bash waits for your choice. You pick Run or Cancel. Off, every command runs as usual
Explain with HaikuoffEach held command is sent to Haiku for a plain-language explanation on the card. It spends tokens. Off (the default), no model is called and the card shows the rule's reason and the preview
On check errorHoldWhat happens to a command when Blast radius cannot check it: a check that throws, or a rules.json that cannot be read. Hold (the default) holds it on the card, or asks the permission system where no card can draw. Run lets it through
Send rm to the binoffA plain rm whose every target is inside the session folder goes to the OS bin instead of deleting, and runs with no card. Windows uses the Recycle Bin through PowerShell, macOS uses trash or Finder, Linux uses gio trash. Where no bin is available the card holds it as before. Outside that folder only files this session made, that your keep file and mod-wrap-up do not keep, go to the bin too. Off (the default), an rm is held
Always show the cardoffA command judged risky but measured harmless (a file that does not exist, nothing to overwrite) passes silently. On, it still shows the card. Off (the default), it runs at once
Iconsautoauto picks Nerd Font or safe glyphs. It uses Nerd Font icons when the terminal's font is a Nerd Font (read from Windows Terminal, iTerm2, VS Code, Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm, Alacritty, GNOME Terminal or Konsole) and safe Unicode glyphs elsewhere. nerd and safe force one
