README

devenv

Personal developer environment and local ws workflow workspace.

This repo started as dotfiles and a workstation bootstrap script. It now also contains the local ws and wsflow plugin packages, the native ws-mcp runtime source, and workflow docs for that system.

Quick Start

git clone https://github.com/kang-sw/devenv.git ~/devenv
cd ~/devenv
bash install.sh # idempotent; safe to re-run
bash install.sh update # skip packages & sudo, refresh config and symlinks

Neovim 0.10+ is required but not installed by the script.

What's Inside

nvim/ Neovim config
shell/ tmux, WezTerm, Starship, zsh, helper scripts
tools/ local Claude session TUIs
agents-plugin/ ws plugin package
agents-plugin-wsflow/ agentless wsflow plugin package
agents-plugin-tool/ native ws MCP runtime and tooling source
ai-docs/ workflow specs, tickets, mental models, references
  • Workstation config: Neovim, tmux, WezTerm, Starship, zsh, shell helpers, and editor/tooling defaults for day-to-day development.
  • Local TUIs: claude-watch and claude-dash live under tools/.
  • ws plugin: Codex-first workflow skills plus the ws-mcp runtime. Claude Code compatibility uses the agents-plugin/ package metadata; there is no live claude-plugin/ source tree.
  • wsflow plugin: Agentless workflow skills that reuse the shared runtime without ws managed-agent orchestration.
  • Runtime source: Go tooling and MCP server code under agents-plugin-tool/.
  • Workflow docs: specs, tickets, mental models, and references under ai-docs/.

install.sh

Detects macOS, WSL, and Linux. Full mode installs packages and writes config. update mode skips package installation and refreshes dotfiles, symlinks, and local plugin setup.

ws Plugin

The active ws plugin package lives in agents-plugin/.

Codex installs use the repository marketplace entries under .agents/plugins/. Claude-compatible marketplace metadata lives under .claude-plugin/.

Local bootstrap registers a Claude-compatible snapshot from agents-plugin/ when Claude Code is available:

claude plugin marketplace add kang-sw/devenv
claude plugin install ws@kang-sw-devenv

The agentless wsflow package lives in agents-plugin-wsflow/ for separate marketplace installation. install.sh does not install wsflow into Claude.

Pi Adapter

The ws workflow tools are also available inside Pi (@earendil-works/pi-coding-agent) sessions through a bundled extension. Install it straight from this repo with Pi's own git package manager:

pi install git:github.com/kang-sw/devenv@<tag>

Replace <tag> with a published release tag (for example v0.46.8). The <host> segment (github.com) is required — Pi's git spec is git:<host>/<user>/<repo>, and a host-less git:kang-sw/devenv mis-parses kang-sw as the host and fails to resolve.

Pi clones the repo, runs npm install against the repo-root package.json (which declares the extension and its runtime dependencies), and loads the extension. No local build step is required: on first use the extension's launcher downloads the release's ws-mcp binary, verifies its checksum, and registers the ws/* tools automatically.

19// The Claude Code mod: the one hooks module a package's hooks.json names,
20// carrying five features.
21//
22// - Mailbox push: the mod loops the one-shot `mailbox wait` as a peek-only
23// signal for one bound session key, and arriving mail starts a turn through
24// $.prompt.submit, or, while a main-thread turn runs, joins it through
25// $.session.append at its next tool boundary (see watcher.ts for the loop).
26// Where the manual feature owns the conversation's key (ws, in a ws
27// project) the mod binds every key the conversation gets itself; elsewhere
28// the agent binds its key through the mod-registered mailbox watch tool.
29// - Lead compaction timing: advisory and milestone wake turns before native
30// auto compaction, and the compaction request tool, whose opt-in resume
31// prompt yields to any turn already started after the compaction (see
32// compaction.ts).
33// - MCP reconnect lever: a tool the model calls when the plugin's MCP server
34// has gone, and `/mcp reconnect` at the next main-thread turn end, with the
35// same opt-in resume prompt (see reconnect.ts).
36// - Workflow manual injection (ws only, in a ws project): a lead session key
37// minted per conversation and the keyed workflow manual in the system
38// prompt, `workflow_manual` answered with the session state alone while
39// the prompt carries the manual, repeat ws reads collapsed to a pointer, and
40// a revive's key adopted as the conversation's (see manual.ts).
41// - Tool-call captions (ws only, off until its config switch is set): a
42// finished, collapsed tool row, or a run the engine folds into one group,
43// drawn as a short caption a second model call wrote, the raw row still the
44// one the model reads and the expanded view draws (see captions.tsx).
45//
46// Claude Code accepts one hooks module per plugin and one unmatched hook per
47// event in it, so the lifecycle events (session.start, session.end,
48// turn.start, turn.complete, session.compact) are registered once here and
49// drive each feature in isolation: a throw in one is logged and leaves the
50// others running. The one cross-feature wait is the shared ws-project gate: the
51// mailbox setup awaits it to decide whether its bind tool registers, and the
52// manual setup awaits the mailbox's host-command probe for its mailbox line.
53//
54// One source serves every package that ships it (this directory is mirrored
55// byte-identically), so package identity is read from the engine at runtime:
56// $.plugin.name picks the drain mode and gates the compaction and manual
57// features,
58// $.plugin.root locates the launcher, and $.mcp.connect(<plugin name>)
59// resolves the MCP server, at session.start for every feature (a dead server
60// cannot be resolved later). The one package name the mod spells is the one
61// drainModeFor (here) and compactionEnabledFor (compaction.ts) compare
62// against; no server name is spelled.

26/**
27 * Lead compaction timing, the compaction feature of the Claude mod: an
28 * advisory and two milestone wake turns before native auto compaction, and
29 * a lever tool the lead calls at a boundary of its own choosing. The engine
30 * still writes the summary, and its auto compaction stays the hard point: the
31 * feature never vetoes or preempts a compaction.
32 *
33 * The resume prompt is opt-in: a lever call without its `continue` flag
34 * (work does not need to resume by itself) submits nothing after the step
35 * and opens no window, and a veto is told to the person through a transcript
36 * notice only.
37 *
38 * With the flag, the fixed resume prompt after the lever's own compaction
39 * (landed or vetoed) is held for CONTINUATION_WINDOW_MS rather than submitted
40 * at once, and any main-thread turn starting within the window cancels it: a
41 * prompt the person typed during the compaction, or a background agent's
42 * notification, already started the first turn after it, which resumes the
43 * work there, so the resume would arrive only as a stale prompt after that
44 * turn. The window's end submits it only when no turn started.
45 *
46 * The advisory point is the configured one, read once per session start
47 * (readAdvisory) and not awaited: until the read settles, and whenever it
48 * fails or its value does not parse, the default applies. A read that settles
49 * after the thresholds were cached drops the cache, so the configured point
50 * applies from the next usage observation of that session.
51 *
52 * A threshold message reports usage as of its delivery, not of the
53 * observation that crossed: session.measure also fires mid-turn (a rate-limit
54 * window moving a point, a subagent's requests among them), and the rest of
55 * that turn grows the context before a submitted prompt reaches the model. So
56 * a crossing observed while a main-thread turn runs is only recorded, and is
57 * delivered at whichever comes first of an observation while no main-thread
58 * turn runs and a main-thread turn end not aborted; delivery reads the usage
59 * afresh and figures the level and the figures from that read.
60 *
61 * Main session only: thresholds read the main thread's usage, the lever
62 * refuses a subagent, and a subagent's or fork's own compaction is ignored.
63 * The engine calls arrive as edges bound in register.ts, so the state machine
64 * here is driven and tested without an engine.

3/**
4 * Workflow manual injection, a feature of the Claude mod (ws only, and only
5 * in a ws project): the mod mints a lead session key for the conversation,
6 * puts the keyed workflow manual in the system prompt, answers a main-thread
7 * `workflow_manual` call with the session state alone while the system prompt
8 * carries the manual, and collapses a repeat `playbook_read` or
9 * `workflow_manual` result to a pointer while the earlier identical result is
10 * still in the conversation. A main-thread `workflow_manual` call with another
11 * lead key (a revive), or with the fresh-bootstrap sentinel whose result
12 * carries the key ws-mcp minted, is adopted as the conversation's key, and
13 * every key the conversation gets is handed to the mailbox push through the
14 * key listener.
15 *
16 * The engine snapshots the main thread's system prompt once per conversation:
17 * only the first `prompt.compose` answer after a session start, a landed
18 * compaction, or `/clear` reaches the API, and a resumed session replays its
19 * recorded snapshot. So the first compose after such a reset waits a bounded
20 * time for the key and the manual, later composes never wait, and the
21 * snapshot flag records whether the conversation's snapshot carries the
22 * section. Only while it does is a `workflow_manual` result cut to the state,
23 * so the manual is never in neither place.
24 *
25 * The engine calls arrive as edges bound in register.ts, so the state machine
26 * here is driven and tested without an engine.

4 * The MCP reconnect lever, a feature of the Claude mod: a tool the model calls
5 * when the plugin's own MCP server has gone, and a reconnect step at the next
6 * main-thread turn end. An interactive session does not restart a dead plugin
7 * stdio server, and `$.mcp.connect` does not either; `/mcp reconnect` does, but
8 * the host refuses it from a hook the turn waits on, so the tool only records
9 * the request and the step runs after the turn.complete hook has returned.
10 *
11 * The step always runs `/mcp reconnect <server>` (a listed-but-failing server
12 * is one a skip would miss), judges the outcome from the tool list, and reports
13 * it. A failure is always submitted. A success submits the fixed resume prompt
14 * only for a call with the `continue` flag, and only when no main-thread turn
15 * started since the step started: such a turn (a background agent's
16 * notification, a typed prompt) already resumes the work, so the resume would
17 * arrive after it as a stale prompt. The engine calls arrive as edges bound in

2 * Pure mailbox-push controller for the Claude Code mod in register.ts; the
3 * Claude counterpart of the pi adapter's mailbox waiter.
4 *
5 * `mailbox wait` only PEEKS (exit 0 = mail present, 3 = timed out, 130 =
6 * interrupted, other = error) and serves purely as the block-until-mail
7 * signal. Draining is mailbox recv's job, in one of two modes:
8 *
9 * - `direct`: the controller drains through recv itself and submits exactly
10 * what recv removed as ONE prompt, so a re-arm never re-delivers the same
11 * mail. A refused drain falls back to the notice path; any other failed
12 * drain backs off and retries, since the mail stays queued. Once recv
13 * answered with mail, the loop is that mail's only holder: anything that
14 * keeps it from being submitted (a failed submit, or a stop while the drain
15 * was in flight) writes it to the user-visible `record` instead.
16 * - `notice`: the controller never drains. It submits one notice asking the
17 * model to call recv, then suspends: the peek would exit at once over the
18 * still-queued mail, so the loop re-arms only when the model's own recv for
19 * the bound key completes successfully (`recvCompleted`). One arrival
20 * yields one notice, and a declined recv leaves the loop suspended rather
21 * than re-noticing.
22 *
23 * Either mode's prompt (the batch or the notice) goes by the turn state when
24 * it is ready. While the session is idle it is submitted and starts a turn.
25 * While a main-thread turn runs it is queued instead and joins that turn:
26 * everything queued by the next tool boundary (`toolCompleted`) is appended
27 * as ONE row, which the turn's next model request reads, and anything still
28 * queued when the turn ends (`turnCompleted`) is submitted as ONE prompt. A
29 * queued batch still holds drained mail, so a refused row, a turn-end
30 * prompt neither submitted nor appended, or a stop records it as above; a lost notice is retried as a
31 * failed notice submit is.
32 *
33 * Every submit (an idle batch or notice, the turn-end leftovers) that the
34 * host rejects or drops falls back to appending the same text as a row: the
35 * host drops a plugin's submit after the person stops a turn until they send
36 * input, and a row appended while idle reaches the model with their next
37 * prompt. Only when that append fails too does the text count as lost.
38 *
39 * Every side effect is an injected edge so the loop is testable without a
40 * live mailbox or engine.
